Los Angeles Junction CF7 2619, along with all the LAJ's CF7s, has turned its last wheel in revenue service, and awaits disposition. Built by EMD as Santa Fe F3A 201C, it was rebuilt by Santa Fe's Cleburne (TX) Shops into a CF7 for use on freight trains in May 1972. Santa Fe got their money's worth, as the 2619 wasn't retired until June 1987. It was sold to National Railway Equipment, who resold it to LAJ in October 1987. In June 2012, LAJ 2619 departed Vernon and headed east in a BNSF train to Barstow, and then on to Topeka, Kansas, to be included in an auction of retired BNSF locomotives. (BNSF is the owner of the LAJ.) Photographed on railroad property with permission and while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
