On the first day of 1981, Amtrak San Diegan #572 rolls into the station at Fullerton, California. The San Diego-bound train, comprised of F40PHR 293 and five Amfleet cars, is passing by the former Union Pacific station, which had just recently been moved to the Amtrak (ex-Santa Fe) station's parking lot. Note that the UP structure, which was formerly on the other side of the tracks and the other side of Harbor Boulevard, has not yet been set down and is still raised on cribbing while the foundation is created. The UP depot will become an Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant, and this entire area will later become a transportation hub, serving Amtrak, Metrolink and transit buses. Big changes were in store for this area!
