Mainline Steam Ka 942 shunts on arrival at Gisborne, the only ever visit by this class. This was the last steam train to cover the Napier to Gisborne section which was closed in 2012. Gisborne is home to a steam locomotive which is hoped will operate on the now isolated line as far as Beach Loop.
Mainline Steam Heritage Trust operates steam specials throughout New Zealand from depots in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Each year an inter-island Steam Tour attracts fans from around the world. For more visit www.mainlinesteam.co.nz
