Just another day at Fernandi... wait, no it's not! I din't expect to see much of trains today, not much being getting a few shots of the St. Mary's Railroad and maybe an Amtrak. Since there was no movement at the Georgia Pacific plant, we headed out to see what the first coast railroad was doing. Oh, we're in luck, a train... oh, a derailment!, and my very first one!
Info on the actual derailment:
A loaded coal train of the First Coast Railroad has derailed just before a siding near Bonnieview Rd on Sunday, August 11th around 4pm (That sure messed up the boss's Sunday!). A group of workers have a conversation while waiting for heavy equipment to arrive from Panama City. The two cranes they brought were specialized for derailments like this, and had five cars re-railed within only about four or five hours. One of the northbound coal cars in the middle of the train must have split the rail and led the others into the crash. Pieces of rails and railroad ties were and are still scattered all around the area. Nobody was injured, and that is all the info i know at the moment.
