Coming home for the last time --- as the sun was setting D&RGW's "Rio Grande Zephyr" Train 18 was arguably in one of the route's most popular locations --- Glenwood Canyon --- after departing Glenwood Springs on April 24, 1983. This was before completion of Interstate 70 through the canyon (1992) and the motorcade pursuing the famous train had a State Patrolman at the front and another at the end making sure there would be no crazy driving. So I picked a spot and waited. Did the two fishermen even notice the last passage? D&RGW reluctantly joined Amtrak.
