Remarks & Notes |
A freight train bound for Whittier pops out of the 5,050'-long Portage Tunnel and into Bear Valley behind a classic black and yellow GP40-2. As an interesting note to this photo, take a look at the gap between the second and third containers and then bring your eyes straight down to the water near the bottom of the image. See the white dot in the water? That's the head of a Bald Eagle perched on a rock eating a fish it had just snagged for lunch! Witnessing stuff like that is just one of the many perks of railfanning the Alaska Railroad! Thanks to fellow RP contributor Frank Keller for the heads up on this move.
