Two uncommon movements are caught in one frame. In a relatively rare daylight move, an NS local hustles through Leaman Place under Amtrak's wires. Most NS operations on the former Pennsy's Philadelphia to Harrisburg main line run under cover of darkness, when traffic levels are low, to keep clear of 110mph passenger operations. Meanwhile, off to the left of the photo the 107-year old 475 picks up a string of freight cars destined for East Strasburg. Steam-powered revenue freight may be rare in the 21st century US, but it's business as usual for the Strasburg Railroad.
Photographs where trains and people mix, weather it's street running, plant switching or carrying a unit grain train out of an elevator, it will be put here.
