Former Southern Railway class Q1 0-6-0 No 33020 has just passed Clapham Junction on the south western main line with an engineers (mow) train coming off duty. This unusual locomotive was designed by Oliver Bulleid and 40 were built in 1942 at the height of World War II. They were last new type of 0-6-0 built in the UK and the most powerful. It was an Austerity design shorn of all un-neccessary components to save scarce materials particularly of a non-ferrous nature. Only the class leader No 33001 survives to-day as rt of the NRM collection.
