Remarks & Notes |
These two units were built by EMD in 1952, yet they represent two different eras in the history of commuter operations within the state of New Jersey. The GP7 is a Jersey Central original. It was assigned to both freight and commuter service up until the formation of Conrail, with ownership eventually transferred to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJ DOT). E8 4253 was built in 1952 as Pennsylvania Railroad "EP22" 5798. It was rebuilt in 1978 for NJ DOT to handle their expanding commuter service responsibilities. By 1979 this operation would officially be incorporated as New Jersey Transit. |
