This GP8 started life as Reading 610 when she was built in 1953 as a GP7. She was eventually purchased by the ICG and went through the GP7 to GP8 rebuild program in Paducah, KY. After several years of use by the ICG she was sold and passed though the hands of several other railroads including Mississippi Delta, G&O, and RJ Corman. When Corman purchased the L&O line 7738 was assigned to she became unwanted Corman property and was donated to The Bluegrass Railroad Museum. She served several years there in an all orange, but weather-beaten scheme. With the museum doing well and funds becoming available a couple of museum volunteers have started the process of returning her to her as built GP8 ICG scheme. The white has been completed and here the long hood sections have just received primer with paint to follow soon. With no indoor facilities available work is weather and volunteer dependent but we hope to have the body back in the orange and white in a few weeks. Detail items will continue through the coming months and once finished we plan to organize a photo charter to raise funds to offset the repainting cost to the museum. Message me if you would be interested in such an event and I'll send info to your contact once we can set a schedule. If you'd like to support the efforts financially for this all volunteer organization you can send a check in care of 7738 Fund to The Bluegrass Railroad Museum P. O.
