Remarks & Notes |
Unique by necessity. Although EMD produced a few (13) MRS-1s ALCO built the majority (47) for the ARMY Transportation Corps. for use if needed in railroads around the world. They have unique measurements for an American locomotive due to tighter clearances in other parts of the world. They also have the ability to run on different gauges of track as needed. This particular model is still a good runner, but she has one truck currently running dead due to a burned traction motor. A clogged drain on a wet day allowed water to build up in the engine compartment where it eventually found it's way into the traction motor blower and down to the brushes. The museum has replacement motors but without a serious need for the repair to be completed, and the associated burden of the repair bill, this unit will likely keep her limp for a while. |
