The Denver & Rio Grande Western ran a special for company photographers from Salt Lake City to the Thistle Tunnels on July 21, 1988. The mission was to obtain high quality photos to promote the D&RGW and SP prior to Rio Grande Industries acquisition of the Southern Pacific on August 8, 1988. The classy little train, with six freight cars from each carrier emerges from the Jordan Narrows with two SD50s (DRGW 5514 & 5504) and two GP60s (SP 9602 & 9603) for power. It was run as a work train, symbol DRGW No. 953.
