Arnold’s Loop in eastern Nevada is one of my all time favorite places to railfan. I keep going back over and over trying to find new photo angles. I am especially fond of shots that include Pilot Peak across the Pilot Valley east of the loop. There is a wonderful sense of isolation out here and it is rare indeed to encounter another railfan, or anyone else for that matter. This image shows the Union Pacific’s daily Roper Yard, Salt Lake City, to Roseville, California, manifest train rounding the loop westbound. Pilot Peak is crowned with snow in this late April shot.
