What is today known as Fairburn, Georgia first started as Campbellton, after merging into Fulton County on January1,1932 the city was renamed. In 1870 Campbell County moved it's seat of Government to a site located on the Atlanta & West Point Railroad, construction commenced in 1871. The Courthouse served Campbell County until the merger with Fulton County in 1932, soon afterwards it was closed. The structure was restored in 1983 and now serves as a community center, meanwhile CSX local A748 heads back south to work Owens Corning on the south side of town.
