In 2011 ON North Bay Shops were contracted to refurb/repaint some Rocky Mountaineer dome cars, two of which are seen here tacked on the back of the southbound Northlander passing through Martins on a cold and dreary afternoon at sunset. These completed cars are en route to Toronto, from there they will then be shipped back out west via VIA (yes, I sometimes tend to repeat myself!) Rail on VIA 1. A month or so after this shot was taken the Ontario government announced that the Northlander train service would be discontinued later that year and Ontario Northland was to be divested. The Northlander service was pulled on September 28th, 2012 but as of yet the freight operations along with other ONTC interests remain in place.
