Remarks & Notes |
Westfield to Wellington manifest train has 400 miles left and will arrive the next day in New Zealand's capital city. The DL class built by Dallian CNR Group was the first Chinese diesel locomotive exported to a western railroad. They have German motors producing about 3600 Hp. Assisting is DC 4070 rebuilt from EMD G12 in original livery of early 1980s - about 50 years age gap in original build date for these locomotives! Two of the greatest obstacles to railroad photography in NZ are part of the vegetation in this scene: gorse, a tough bush covered in thorns with yellow flowers and pampas grass with cutting leaves and tall feather like flowers. Both are prolific along railroad right of way. On this day I didn't have tools to deal with it properly!
