Freezing, snowing, and the cake is complete as the icing rolls by. I went down for some close-ups of this rare CSX SD80mAC before when it was sitting and waiting for it's next crew, and I feel lucky to see the exact same one again... Frozen!
Behind it, an astonishing two GE ES44ACs and an SD40-2 on the rear of the consist. No, there were no helpers, but it had no issues plowing around 488 axles (subtracting the 24 axles that belong to the consist) of black diamonds through the frozen landscapes of CSX's Mon-Line, which is found between Webster and McKeesport, PA. This subdivision is usually full of coal trains, with SD70mAC and GE AC44 leaders, sometimes a few GE ES44ACs too. Our "Local" trains have GP40-2s with slugs on average as well. Two unique things I've seen personally on this line were SD50s and SD80mACs.
Sometimes you just get lucky, but it's quite worth those random specials!
