Remarks & Notes |
Arguably the finest aesthetically designed diesel locomotive. The BR Class 52 hydraulic ‘Westerns’ were styled by the famous industrial designer Misha Black, the result of an imitative by the British Transports Commission Design Panel. How many of today’s locos have this level of attention paid to style and design. Sadly the Westerns did not last long in service due to a change of policy that favoured diesel electric all having disappeared by the mid 1970’s. Fortunately several are preserved; here 1015 Western Champion passes Standish Junction with a charter. |
