An annual tradition in southern California is BNSF Railway's California Division Christmas Train. The train, operated for local childrens' charities (Boys and Girls Clubs, Shriners Childrens Hospital, etc.) ran for three days in 2013. On Saturday, December 14th, the train made two round trips from San Bernardino to Summit, at the top of nearby Cajon Pass. Between the two trips, the train sits in the San Bernardino station while the all-volunteer crew enjoys a delicious lunch prepared by the dining car's chef (although I snuck out to grab a few shots). And in 2013, the BNSF put together a 14 car train - about twice as long as normal. BNSF ES44C4 7008 was on the western end of the train, and recently repainted Dash 9-44CW 4938 was assigned to the eastern end of the train. Sunny (but windy, as can be seen by the palm trees in the distance) conditions, with temperatures in the mid-70ºs, made conditions for the local railfans ideal for photography on Cajon.
