The BNSF Transcon is about as mundane as it gets power wise in this increasingly standardized period in railroading. It's a great place to sit and watch 70+ trains scream by most days, but you won't get too excited about the locomotives unless you like the color orange--a lot. This was during our Third Annual 24 Hour La Plata, MO Train Watch, and about the coolest thing to show up so far in the previous 2 years were some scattered NS and KCS engines (and one patched SP if I recall right). However, railroads never cease to amaze me, and THIS consist was thrown together for BNSF Train B CHICAX1 18A, leaving us to again ponder what decade we're in.
No way this is 2013, right? Looks more like 1999 from here! Thanks to the little birdie phoamer network for the lineup tipping us off to this combo. The front yard really emptied out and the masses herded to the tracks when news regarding arrival of the first cool train in 3 years spread. Otherwise we would have seen it blast by, getting only a passing glance. I'd rather get the shot.
