Snow and Snow Sheds. Donner Pass is infamous for heavy snow and railroading. Here, a westbound stack train led by Union Pacific 5039 battles through blinding snow at the Norden snow shed. A crewman called out a clear signal as the train passed under an old Southern Pacific searchlight signal bridge. No one knows how much longer this historic signal bridge will stand as many similar signal bridges have fallen.
