| This is one of my favorite L&N photos--taken by the late August Thieme. CV Division train 55--the overnight through freight from Corbin to Norton, VA--is blasting upgrade on the last three miles to its destination. Motive power this morning is M-1 "Big Emma" 2-8-4 number 1985, not more than a month after its construction by Lima-Hamilton. The 1985 was in the group of 22 of these magnificent locomotives built in 1949 (1970-1991). Two local guys are watching at the old US 23 grade crossing. This photo appeared on a cover of Trains Magazine not long after it was taken.
