Remarks & Notes
Amtrak's westbound train #351, the Wolverine, is shown passing the former Michigan Central locomotive and car shop buildings at Jackson, MI. Built in 1872, the shops built and repaired equipment for the MC (later absorbed by the New York Central) until closed by NYC in June, 1949. Although locomotive and car repair had been moved to other locations, the yard remained in operation during the Penn Central and into the Conrail years. As can be seen in the photo, by the early 1990's, most activity had ceased.

Amtrak has three routes that connect Michigan with Chicago, but none to the East or South. The routes are: Wolverine - Pontiac - Chicago; Blue Water - Port Huron - Chicago, and Pere Marquette - Grand Rapids - Chicago.
