Remarks & Notes |
After Harnischfeger Corporation closed its crane plant in Escanaba the CNW moved its engine facility from the run down antiquated steam era roundhouse to this more modern building at the former crane plant. The C628's somehow never looked at home to me at this shop. By Christmas of 1986 it will no longer matter as the 6724 will have pulled its last ore train and will be shunted over to the number 6 ore yard where it will sit in storage for a few years before the trip to the scrapper. The GP7 in the consist shows the handwriting is on the wall for the CNW Alco fleet as the C425, RS32, RS-36 or RS-11 that would have normally been occupying that spot has already been retired. As an aside the 6724 was one of a handful of C628's to get the Zito yellow paint. |
