VIA’s eastbound Train 2 crosses Canadian Pacific’s famous Stoney Creek arch bridge on its descent off Rogers Pass on Aug. 11, 1981. The steel bridge replaced a wooden trestle in 1893 and and a second reinforcing steel arch was added in 1929. The bridge is 484-ft. long and is 325-ft. above the creek. CP’s opening of its new 9.1-mile long Macdonald Tunnel and route with 1% grades under Ross Peak in Dec. 1988 has taken much traffic off this original line.
