After assisting a stalled coal train up Kirkwood Hill, a pair of UP motors, including a reactivated C40-8, drift downgrade through Keyes Summit to pick up their quality manifest train that they left 8 miles back at Sherman. When they reached their consist, the crew found an unpleasant surprise in the form of a leaking tank car, which caused further delays for both them and their train. Keyes Summit is a rather peaceful location perched high above the northern portion of Valley Park, MO, which can be seen through the trees in the background. A small drive called Quinette Road runs up the hill right between both the UP and the parallel BNSF Cuba Subdivision, making it a good spot to watch eastbounds on both lines dig in for their climbs out of the Meramec River valley.
