The Rio Grande Ski Train of March 2, 2002, has some “heritage” leading as it approaches Tunnel 1 east of Plainview, Colorado. Union Pacific EMD GP60 No. 1900, the former Rio Grande No. 3154, takes the place of the usual leading Ansco F40PH No. 242 that needed some shop time. Coal Creek Canyon is covered in a nice coat of white on this late winter morning—stuff that skier’s dreams are made of.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
