Remarks & Notes |
A far from common railway scene in 2014! This is the Saiccor Exchange Yard at Umkomaas on the KwaZulu Natal South Coast as pictured on the 10th April 2014, with ex South African Railway Class 19D (4-8-2), No. 2767, now Saiccor No.3, simmering away patiently while her crew record numerical information on the loaded timber wagons they are about to haul up to the mill (about 2 kilometres away). Built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn for the South African Railways in 1945, No. 2767 is one of three Class 19D locomotives owned by Saiccor - although only two of the three remain in service in 2014.
TFR (Transnet Freight Rail) drop the timber loads off in the Exchange Yard and the Saiccor steam locomotives then work the timber up to the mill and bring the empty wagons back to the Exchange Yard for TFR to collect. |
