"Phew, something stinks!"...the engineer chuckles, leans out the window, and shouts "I know what you mean, try being up here!". CSX 3139 has just completed pulling a train of empty trash cars from the Big Run Landfill at Coalton, KY and is spotting the train on the ex-C&O Lexington Subdivision mainline between Princess and Coalton. The mile-plus string of containers will be tied down while the loaded cars are spotted, before both locomotives pick the empty cars up and make their way to Russell Yard to head back to the Northeast to be loaded.
Any and all pictures from Collis P. Huntington's "Gateway to the West," Chesapeake & Ohio's mainline from Ashland to Lexington, KY. Reduced from a 100+ mile route, down to about 15 miles.
