Remarks & Notes
Already renumbered to 527 make way for the P42 #199, this former GO Transit unit is still a GP40TC, but relegated to work train service. Norfolk Southern rebuilt it for Amtrak into a GP38H-3 not too long after this photo was taken. Today its main purpose is to power work trains, but it is used to rescue road trains on the NEC when necessary thanks to it retaining an HEP power plant. Amtrak purchased all eight of these unique locomotives in 1988 to supplement the F40 fleet and since then they've been used all over the system.

Now that so many American and South American railways are buying old Canadian locos with the bell above the windshield and details like that, that old fashion is disappearing too fast, and not to mention eco rebuild programs.
