Next year will mark the 75th Diamond Jubilee anniversary for this SW1, originally built in 1940 for the Elgin Joliet & Eastern Railway (EJE) and then sold to the Great Western Railway in 1959. It was sold again to Coors sometime in the 1980’s and then sold yet again to Colorado Sweet Gold LLC in 1998. Even though the company went out of business in 2008 you can still find #63, “The Kernel” performing switching duties at the former plant site on the east side of the town of Johnstown, Colorado.
