Back in business! Having made a remarkable recovery following a dramatic bridge fire and subsequent collapse, Heart of Texas Railroad has proven to be resilient. The bridge fire was caught on video that quickly went viral on the internet. Heart of Texas Railroad began operations in January of 2013 following the auction of the bankrupt Gulf, Colorado & San Saba Railroad. The fire and collapse of the lengthy Colorado River bridge came shortly after, in May of 2013. Down time after the fire was spent repairing track, upgrading bridges and spraying weeds. Operations resumed in May of 2014 following completion of the impressive new bridge and with it, new power in a striking paint scheme. Here, two of the freshly painted HTR units lead an outbound train toward BNSF interchange in Lometa.
