With the Indian Ocean providing the backdrop, the race to Durban from Umkomaas was never one that the Isolde, a Liberian registered container ship (top left of photo), was going to win. The older Type 5M2A eight coach Metrorail set, seen here crossing the Umkomaas River, naturally has the upper hand. Having just departed Umkomaas Station on the KwaZulu Natal South Coast, the Kelso to Durban bound commuter set will arrive in Durban in just over an hour's time, while the Isolde will only reach the outer anchorage in Durban some three hours later.
