Twenty years ago to the day, 15 car Union Pacific excursion powered by their 3 refurbished E's, uses the wye at Reno Jct, CA before returning to Portola, 21 miles to the west. The train was in Northern California for a series of trips including the "Circle the Wagons" event held over the 4th of July weekend at Portola in 1994. I dug out this photo after seeing a very similar shot posted here a few days ago by Chris Zygmunt, http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=487580&nseq=0. After a little research in an attempt to fill in a few blanks, his photo was actually taken from the same location in 1980 when a UP directors special operated over the Feather River Canyon prior to the WP takeover.
Photos of North America's favorite First Generation locomotives. EMD, ALCO, Baldwin; essentially anything that represents the OG wide cab diesel locomotive
