101 Class 35 Hydraulic locomotives were built between 1961 and 1964,and were used on a vatiety of work on the former Western Region of British Rail. The locos had all been withdrawn from use by the mid 1970s,being deemed "non standard".They were a very useful 90mph loco, fitted with Maybach 1700hp engines, and I had the pleasure of working on them for a few years.D7017 was introduced new in January 1962 and was withdrawn in March 1975.Fortunately she was preserved, and is currently on loan to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, and is seen here,in immaculate condition,at Gotherington Loop with a Laverton to Cheltenham Racecourse working.
