Threkeld Mining Museum is based around a working quarry and each July holds a steam gala with up to 6 guest steam locomotives making an appearance. The locomotives are used on passenger and freight trains which run up a curving steep gradient until the quarry area is reached. there passengers can view a display given by the working steam excavator as it loads gravel onto tipper wagons hauled by Chaloner, a vertical boilered steam locomotive. Here a passenger train has arrived and the demonstration is well under way.
