Remarks & Notes |
It is 50 years ago to-day since I took my first photograph of a foreign train. It was this gleaming Pacific we found awaiting the arrival of the SS Canterbury from Folkestone at Boulogne Maritime wit the 13.22 rapide to Paris. I was highly impressed, particularly by the fact that one could walk round the loco standing there without any problems from authority. It set me on a lifetime hobby of photographing European trains. The loco was originally built for the PLM in 1916 by the Chantier de la Loire as No 6230 later becoming 231C30. It was rebuilt as 213K30 in 1947 and was withdrawn from Calais depot on 29/5/1969. Photo taken with a Rolleicord V camera using Tri-X film. This is also my 500th photo on RailPictures. |
