Under an intense rain and wind, and by the former trasandine railway line between Los Andes (FCTC Chile) and Mendoza (FCTA Argentina) over the great Andes mountain (closed in 1984 except the section Los Andes - Rio Blanco which remains open to serve a CODELCO Andina copper mine located in Saladillo, Rio Blanco), train of FEPASA #50.983 enters the rocky gorge known as "Salto del Soldado" after crossing one of the bridges in the sector. This place is a great canyon, geological formation of the erosion caused by the Aconcagua River, rocky gorge about 100 meters high. As data annex, the term or legend "Salto del Soldado" (soldier jump) is due to the timing of the Reconquest in which a lone soldier of Chilean military forces escaped of the army of spanish royalty, heroically jumped this gap, can escape those who pursued. It is estimated that the time gap throat was 3 meters, but not now that is 10 meters wide, making it impossible for a new leap.
