Bay 27 at the Juniata Shops is typically where locomotives slated for rebuild begin this process. NS SD60 6610 is the latest locomotive to begin rebuild at Juniata. It's cab will be completely cut off and all the internals will be gutted. A brand new NS designed "Crescent" wide-cab will be installed, along with a newly reworked 16-710 EMD prime mover, cab signals, LSL, and lastly a new tuxedo black paint job will be applied. Upon completion, the resulting SD60E will be a practically brand new locomotive at half the cost of a brand new GE or EMD locomotive.
