Remarks & Notes |
NS 3063 rests dead for the weekend on the former Wabash 4th District (Chicago-Montpelier) mainline adjacent the Indiana Sugars plant north siding. The square concrete foundation once supported a tall (three indication) semaphore signal which I could see from my bedroom window in the 1950's and 60's. Our house was situated about fifty yards to the right of the engine and when the semaphore dropped to horizontal it usually meant a Chicago bound manifest freight was approaching from the east. Almost always the power would be two Wabash F7A units and almost always this rail-fan would bolt from the house and run to the tracks for some closeup viewing. The show was never over until the caboose had passed and was out of sight. |
