Norfolk Southern SD40 3435 (which NS calls an SD40-2 due to electrical upgrades) appears to be staring at Saint Louis' iconic arch, rising across the Mississippi River. NS 3435 is laying over by the hump in Alton & Southern's Gateway Yard in East Saint Louis, Illinois, on a stormy October 3rd, 2014. This locomotive rolled out of EMD's factory in March 1966 as Pennsylvania Railroad SD40 6100, later becoming Penn Central 6100 and then Conrail 6978, before becoming part of NS's large locomotive fleet.
