We spent the previous night in southeastern Colorado, and started heading back east on this hot summers day. On our eastbound trek, we stayed parallel to what we were thinking was an abandoned track since it had some shrubbery growing in it. However the moment we crossed the state line into Kansas, we could see the tail end of a short grain train. So we flew the 24 foot motor home down a dirt road so I could manage a couple shots of the train. It wound up to be a South Western Railway grainer heading east towards Dodge City, led by two GP26's, which ya won't find on many other railroads!
