Remarks & Notes |
It's not to hard to imagine how Southern Pacific came up with the station name of 'Cliff' for a isolated near 3 mile section of their famed line over Tehachapi Pass. Just east of Cliff siding and situated high above the Tehachapi Creek the former Southern Pacific line, now operated by successor Union Pacific, clings to the mountain side on a narrow shelf cut into the mountain in between Tunnels 7 and 8. Emerging from the east portal of Tunnel 7 BNSF 5497 with intermodal tonnage tied to the drawbar prepares for the 'high wire' portion of its journey over the mountain pass. |
