On the longest day of the year, a perfectly timed unit grain train catches the first minutes of light as it traverses the northernmost mile on BNSF's northern mainline. Here in the Kootenai River Gorge between Katka and Crossport, Idaho, the tracks are less than 20 miles from the Canadian border, and trains only get sunlight on the river side during the northern light of very late spring and early summer.
