Trains carrying iron ore from the mines in the Northern Cape run via the Potchefstroom - Houtheuwel link line, to reach one of two ArcelorMittal steelworks, either in Vanderbijlpark, or in Newcastle in kwaZulu-Natal. These trains are usually 104 wagons long and four 10E's are the regular power, such as this eastbound seen passing the grain silos at Raathsvlei. In this four loco consist, 10 115 in TFR red livery is actually a 10E2, a slightly more powerful version of the 10E.
