Essex is a lonely spot in California's Mojave Desert, on the former Santa Fe mainline between Los Angeles and Chicago. BNSF Railway train S-CLOSCO1-01A, powered by the typical assortment of ES44DCs and Dash 9-44CWs (in this case, 7905, 5265 and 4411), could be seen for miles as it approached Essex on its way from Clovis, New Mexico to Thenard, California. (Thenard is in the Port of Los Angeles area.)
