Remarks & Notes
A quartet of Roy Hill General Electric Transportation System ES44AC6 locomotives - RHA 1001, 1003, 1012, and 1011, are joined by a BNSF ES44AC and brand new CN ES44AC 2904 on the GETS test track at Erie, Pennsylvania on November 3. Roy Hill Australia is constructing a 215-mile rail line that will eventually feature 5 unmanned ore train sets that will feature 232 ore jennies and a total capacity of 31,450 metric tonnes of ore. The line will run from the Roy Hill mine site in the Pilbara region of Western Australia to a port facility at Port Hedland. According to Roy Hill, "a marshalling yard will be located eight kilometres from the port ore car dumper. It has been specifically designed to facilitate the rapid refueling of locomotives, inspection of empty trains prior to their return to the mine and heavy maintenance tasks. A state-of-the-art, high technology communications based, automatic train protection and in cab, moving block signalling system will provide Roy Hill’s rail operations with improved safety for all track related activities and operational efficies, while also making the system ready for future autonomous rail operations. The adoption of this full vehicle tracking communication based technology will be the first of its kind to be used in Australia and will set new benchmarks for iron ore railways in the Pilbara." Lighting was a trio of AB1600 units set at full power with camera set to ISO 400, 1/250th and f7.1.
