A Llandudno Great Orme Tramway tram departs the summit with the last service of the day on the upper section on a sunny April Saturday. This line is a cable-hauled 3 ft 6 in (1,067 mm) gauge tramway in Llandudno in North Wales. This is Britain's only remaining cable operated street tramway. It takes passengers from Llandudno Victoria Station to just below the summit of the Great Orme headland. This tramway is not a cable car but is a street running funicular, where the trams are permanently fixed to the cable, and are stopped and started by stopping and starting the cable. As one tram ascends, the other descends, passing each other at the mid-point. The tramway was opened in 1902 It has two sections which operate independently, with two trams on each section. The system has gradients as steep as 1 in 3.8. The tramcars, have all been in service since opening in 1902.
