Conductor Floyd Guymon boards the Fourth South Switcher after chatting with two local kids about safety around railroad tracks. At the time, Floyd had 32 years of seniority with the Rio Grande and SP. By August 2, 1996, D&RGW 3003 was the last GP30 still in service in the Salt Lake City area. 3003 was finishing its last active day prior to shutdown and shipment east to Denver, Colorado.
