On Sunday, December 28, just a day before Amtrak's Vermonter train switches routes between East Northfield and Springfield, Massachusetts, to the Pan Am Southern Connecticut River Line, Pan Am Southern dispatched a test train to operate over the route to test signals and grade crossing protection one last time. The Test Train - symbol OCS-28 - utilized the Pan Am OCS business cars with FP9 PAR-1 and MEC GP40-2W 510 for the runs. Seen southbound at Bernardston, the train operated at various speeds in cooperation with lineside engineering personnel to make the last-day tests to the new signal system.
